Corporate governance, reporting and regulation Essay
Corporate governance, reporting and regulation - Essay Example independent directors are also appointed in order to have some added benefits in terms of additional knowledge and experience which would be useful for achieving better results by the company. There has always been a debate about the relevance of the independent directors in improving the performance of the company. This project is an attempt to identify and analyse the relevance of the independent directors in improving the organisational performance. The paper discusses the extent to which the appointment of independent director can influence the performance of the company and whether the independent director can improve the performance of the company or not. The meaning and the reasons behind the appointment of the independent directors have been studied and discussed in order to have an idea about the independent directors moreover the role and responsibilities of the independent directors have also been analysed to assess the independent directorââ¬â¢s scope in improving the organisational performance. The executive directors are employed by the company therefore the company has a control over them. The concept of the independent director came from the thought of having someone in the board who would think only for the betterment of the company without being influenced by someone. Thus the decisions taken by such person would be unbiased and free of any personal interest. Hence the independent director would be someone who cannot be controlled by the company or its management and could not interfere in the work of the independent director. Hence an independent is a director who was not an employee of the company or any of the related party of the company in the last five years. The independent director should not be the companyââ¬â¢s advisor or should not have any contract of personal service where the company or any of its related members is a party to such contract. The independent director should not be related to any non-profit organisation to which the

Macro Economics Wall Street Journal Article Essay
Macro Economics Wall Street Journal Article - Essay Example It could not however be fully associated with higher future income or enrollment in schools (Da Costa ââ¬ËWall Street Journalââ¬â¢). The lives and welfare of these disadvantaged groups in America were however changed for the better. The macroeconomic value of the ââ¬ËSummer Jobs Program for the Poor Youthââ¬â¢ is closely linked to the economic theories of Business Cycles and Unemployment. Investing in the summer jobs programs for the disadvantaged youths led to changes in the cycles of business and unemployment in America. Unemployment, which is a major factor affecting the young population in America is significantly reduced as more youths get opportunities for employment. Increased income and savings will see more young people venture into individual business investments. Resultantly, more cycles of business will arise. The underlying assumption is that by being part of the active production, these disadvantaged youths lower their risks of imprisonment and death. Lowered cases of imprisonment and mortality imply an increased labor force provided by the prime-aged population and hence higher productivity. The economyââ¬â¢s business cycles and unemployment trends will, therefore, be

Audrey Hepburn built her incredible acting talent out of her troubled upbringing Essay Example for Free
Audrey Hepburn built her incredible acting talent out of her troubled upbringing Essay Audrey Hepburn was born in 4th of May 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. She is an idol of elegance for all time. She spends her first years of school in London. However, because of the Naziââ¬â¢s occupancy, she moved into Holland with her mother. She continued to conservatoire in Arnhem which is the city of Holland. After the war, Audrey started taking ballet classes. Her first show was in 1947 and its name is ââ¬ËHigh Buton Shoes.ââ¬â¢ She became more famous with ââ¬ËGigiââ¬â¢ movie. Also, she won Oscar with her ââ¬ËRoman Holidayââ¬â¢ movie. After a year, she acted in ââ¬ËOndine with Mel Ferrerââ¬â¢. In this period, Hepburn and Ferrer started a relationship and they married in 1954. She gained Academy nomination with the ââ¬ËSabrinaââ¬â¢ movie in the same year. With the movie of ââ¬ËThe Nunââ¬â¢s Storyââ¬â¢, again she was nominated for the Academy award. In 1960, her first child Sean was born. She gained her fifth Academy nomination with the ââ¬ËWait Until Darkââ¬â¢. However, in the same year, she got divorced. She made her second marriage with psychiatrist Andrea Dotti. They had a son which named as Luca. She acted in ââ¬ËAlwaysââ¬â¢ in 1989. That is the last movie of her. After 1980 she started to work as a goodwill ambassador of Unicef. She died on 20 January 1993 in Swetland because of appendicular cancer. Psychologà ±cal Analysis Of Audrey Hepburn wà ±th the perspectà ±ve of Adler Audrey Hepburn was born in 4th of May 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. Her mother name is Baroness Ella van, Heemstra. As you can guess from ââ¬ËBaronesââ¬â¢ title, she is from a noble family. From her first marriage, she has got two children, Ian and Alex. She made her second marriage with Joseph Victor Anthony Ruston, who is the father of Audrey. Audrey is the only child of this second marriage. Also, this marriage ended traumatically too because Audreyââ¬â¢s father left them in the 9th year of the marriage. When we look at the parental style of this famà ±ly, we can à ±nterpret Audrey as a neglected child. She là ±ved wà ±th her father only for sà ±x years. When Audrey was sà ±x years old, Ruston left them. Audrey told that event as ââ¬ËI adored my father. When he left us, he commà ±ted us to là ±fe-long à ±nsecurà ±tyââ¬â¢(15).However à ±t à ±s not the only reason to classà ±fà ±ed Audrey as a neglected chà ±ld. When we look at the these sà ±x years we see that Audrey and Ruston communà ±ctà ±on dà ±d not very wellà § Audrey was love her father very much and she was trying to show her talents to her father. Unfortunately, she could not get the results of thà ±s trà ±als. (12) Accordà ±ng to Adlerââ¬â¢s theory the neglected chà ±ld can need to others à ±n the future to recognà ±tà ±on and nurturance (76). As we can guess thà ±s predà ±ctà ±on fà ±ts to Audrey because she was a famous actress and her need for recognà ±tà ±on can be satà ±sfà ±e d through her fans. Also, Audrey à ±nterpreted that she has a mà ±strust about compassà ±on and she always felt grateful to ones who showed compassà ±on to her. When we look at her mother Baroness Ella van Heemstra, we can observe the other characteristic of neglected chà ±ld: havà ±ng unsupportà ±ve parent. Her mother gà ±và ±ng advà ±ce to her à ±n an dà ±fferent way whà ±ch à ±s: ââ¬Ë You should thà ±nk about always thà ±nk about others. You are not an à ±nterestà ±ng person. Other people are more à ±mportant than you.ââ¬â¢ (12). In addà ±tà ±on to that, Audrey had an performance à ±n New York. At the end of the show, Ella van Heemstra congratulated her: ââ¬Ë You dà ±d a good job, especà ±ally when we consà ±der that you do not have any talentââ¬â¢. So when the whole world talks about Audrey show, Ella van Heemstra could not satà ±sfà ±ed wà ±th her daughter talent. When we contà ±nue to look at Audreyââ¬â¢s là ±fe, Audrey started a boarding school in England. In the end of summer 1939, England started a war to Nazis. Audrey and her mother moved into Arnhem again. However, after a time Nazis occupied Arnhem too. Nazis try to provoke Holland against the England. To conceal herself, Audrey learned Dutch and change her name to ââ¬ËEdda van Heemstraââ¬â¢. At this time, they lose communication with Audreyââ¬â¢s brothers. After that Ella began to take part in the Holland resistance. Because of the occupy, Arnhem conservatoire open itââ¬â¢s door without a payment. Audrey started to take classes about music and dance in there. In 1944, an operation held to the Nazis. This operation failed and a request which is about leaving the city is asked from the civils. Audrey and her family left the city and they moved into Velp city. They had really very awful days in there. As we see, Audrey had terrà ±ble, traumatà ±c memorà ±es from the war days. So, how can she can stà ±ll contà ±nue and adapt to thà ±s là ±fe? According to Adler, Individual Psychology understand and analyze the whole events from the perspective of soulââ¬â¢s goal.(Adler, 2017). For that period, when we look at the goal of Audrey, she stated: ââ¬ËMy passion about dance suppressed the fear which is towards to Germans.ââ¬â¢ So, we can say that her goal shaped her life and helped to cope with the problems. When we analyze more deeply, we can find some reasons about the choosing this goal.Audreyââ¬â¢s memories show that, when she was ten years old, she took part in her school performance. At the end of the show, everybody ââ¬âincluding her mom- applauded her with enthusiasm. (18) . Audrey was very happy. Adler supports that, a childââ¬â¢s goal includes the desire of being protected and get into the society. (Adler, 2017). Also

Horror Films Special Effects and Cinematography
Horror Films Special Effects and Cinematography From our child hood we have been imagining ghosts and seeing imaginary things that are almost improbable to exist to give us terrific fears and these fears come to haunt our dreams. Watching a horror movie gives us that old feeling of fear and makes us emotionally attached to the film. The horrific images from the movie with its special effects and sudden sounds would make many watch them even though its scary. But almost all the horror movies end after balance is restored and everything turns to normal to give the audience a sense of satisfaction. The dissertation is based on the Study of cinematography and special effects in a Horror movie. In the recent past camera, lighting and special effects are of greater importance and fame, so it will be worth exploring those topics. As far as the technical aspect is concerned a brief research of how these kind of films are being filmed from the shooting spot itself, will be very useful for an aspiring artist to get a better idea about its development. Horror films go back as far as the onset of films themselves, over 100 years ago. Introduction: The researcher was interested in watching horror films from his childhood and he was deeply interested in these genres. In his childhood the researcher was very much impressed with the serial mainly called Genmam-X and Marmadesam. The drama that he staged in his schooldays with horror and scary effects as the theme was applauded well by the audience. The tremendous response from the viewers made him start learning the concepts and idea relating to this genre and finally concluded with this concept. It is difficult to show scary effects in screens. If the director gets his requirements from all the technicians the film will be successful, otherwise it will not. In order to get success the film must contain interesting characters and it also depends on their acting. And in terms of technical aspects the cinematography and special effects play a major role. In Indian cinemas, there is some response for these kinds of genre when compared to Hollywood. The main aim of the upcoming short film is that after seeing this, many people have to change their mind to see horror films also. So the main thing that the film should contain is better cinematography with matching special effects. Instead of concentrating on the story alone, cinematography and special effects should be given more importance. Aim: To give the thrill the viewer expects mainly the use of the camera, lightings and Special Effects, Were Script play the secondary role. Statement of the problem: The main purpose of adding the special effects is to frighten the viewer. When it goes beyond the limit it might not be watched by many people. In this situation it may go to another genre of hardcore horror. It may scare people but it will create some abnormal effects in the minds of some people. Objectives: How is cinematography in horror films different from other films? What are special Effects? How is Special Effects done in horror movies? A Study of the cinematography for horror movies. How is make up done for horror movies? Research Questions: What are Special Effects? Colors and intensity of lights? Camera trick and technique in cinematography? Special Effects (Make up) for horror movies? How the horror movies getting winning changes? Significance of the study: Horror movies are the best platform to find rich special effects and lighting and Much interesting camera handling which gives the viewers a different experience From other films. The study through this dissertation is to understand The cinematography in horror films and application of special effects in them. The cinematography is done by John L.Russell. Psycho is one of the best Hollywood horror movies best for lighting. In one scene the psycho is going to kill the lady who is taking her bath were the lighting was done very well to signify the horror. It is considered to be the best cinematography, in 1961 by John L.Russell .Oscar was nominated for this film. Reference: The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter with Special Effects by Rob Bottin. The movie was taken in 1982. In that period they used special effects and visual Effects and make up. The makeup was so realistic that it attracted the viewer Quickly. A human is transformed to a demon easily and the scene is presented very effectively which will fascinate the people. . The comment was that it was too scary. This shows how they have applied VFX and SFX. And the Best special effect 1982 Rob Bottin Saturn award was nominated for this Film. Reference: Van Helsing and the director is Stephen Sommers. The cinematography is handled by Allen Daviau. The movie Van Helsing comes under the genre of horror and it came out in the year 2004. In this movie they followed a really nice cinematography. Actually this movie came out from the comic that Van Helsing is a ghost hunter who will be roaming around the earth in search of ghost, In this movie also he is coming to a village in search of the ghost. There are two interesting characters in this movie. One is the Frankenstein and the other one is the wolf character which was in the custody of the villain. The extra ordinary thing about the movie is that the CG In early days, man used special effects and later it got developed into visual effects. In this movie there are many visual effects shots. A few examples include the climate sequence where the ordinary man transforms into a wolf that is a quality CG work in the industry. Further there are many VFX shots in the movie. Special effects include the blood bossing from the mouth and the usage of the miniature in the movies where Gabrie l (hero) taking the Frankenstein away from the village. Most of the shots were shot inside the studio and they were composited later. Usage of expressive and breath taking matte paintings added to the quality of the movie. The cinematography of the movie plays a major role because of the proper establishment and composition. Reference: Mirror-2 directed by Victor Garcia. Cinematography is done by Lorenzo Senatore. It is really a kind of hardcore killing movie where we can find the hero who is replacing the old security guard in the office. The main concept behind this movie is the revenge by the girl who is killed by the head officer. And he is killing the people through the medium mirror. The main success behind the movie is the lighting and cinematography. Reference: Saw-4, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and cinematography by David Armstrong. This movie is the successor of the three early parts. The success behind the movie is the usage of the equipments and the method he used for killing others. In the first scene of the movie the villain killed the victim by tying the body to a steel bed and the axe was in a to and fro motion just above the stomach of the victim where it got peeled into many pieces. Website Reference: This Media Studies Factsheet was researched Written by Steph Hendry The horror films are not from this period. Those films were taken from the very early times where they only depend on the special effects and the camera tricks .At that time also some nice pictures came namely the Frankenstein a ghost which was made by a man by assembling many internal organs .This is the fact, that behind the creation of the ghost namely Frankenstein, is one type of ghost. There are many types of ghost that may include the external ghost which was having its own appearance and they will have some special characteristics. The Internal ghost is that it will enter ones body and it will do some thing inside the body of the character. This is the kind of ghost and others include the vampire. Mostly all the thriller movies have this type of ghost, there will be a character sucking blood from the humans and using them for their existence. They will be more like humans living with them but they will have some special characteristics In the earlier periods the ghost will be only living inside the cave and later the living area of the ghost also increased ,no matter where the ghost are living- it may be at school, it may in our home or inside ones soul no matter where it will be. So we can go to the place as we wish when going for this kind of genre. And nowadays time is also not a matter for the ghost it may come at day time or it may come when we are sleeping and when we are in dream. The only fact is that vampire can roam around the world during day times. (Reference: www.darkwebonile.com )accessed on Book

Jane Eyre By Charlotte Brontë :: English Literature
Jane Eyre By Charlotte Brontà « Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontà « was published in 1848, under the name of Currer Bell. Although the novel is over 150 years old, there are still themes that we can relate to today, such as bullying, prejudice and hypocrisy. In this essay, I am going to discuss the three themes mentioned and also consider admirable characters from the novel; the authors narrative technique and the part that I found appealing. The first issue that I will discuss will be on the bullying that Jane received at Gateshead Hall: the home of her Auntie and cousins. She is bullied by not just her cousins, but her aunt as well. In Chapter one, it shows the bullying from her cousins and aunt, when she has begun reading and John Reed, her cousin, throws the book at her head, and she retaliates. But because she retaliated, John's sisters ran up to their 'mamma' and blamed the fight on Jane. She was then escorted upstairs and locked in the red room. This could be counted as a form of bullying, as she only puts her in the red room as a punishment for attacking John, but we, the readers, already know that John started all of the commotion. Verbal bullying is also used in chapter one, where John Reed calls her names for throwing a punch at him (QUOTE: CHAPTER1/LINE 16: "I don't very well know what I did with my hands, but he called me 'Rat!, rat! ') During Jane's First term at Lowood, Jane is bullied out of food, when there was very little and the older girls wanted some more food to devour. Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative, related in the voice of the protagonist, or heroine. Jane Eyre is the "I" of the story, the person whose voice we hear as we read, and everything that happens is seen from her point of view. Nowhere in the novel does the author break the flow of the narrator's voice to give us an objective view of her main character. However, she does remind us once in a while that the story is being told by Jane as a mature woman, looking back on events that happened some years earlier. The mature Jane occasionally comments on the younger Jane's reactions to those events, and sometimes she even addresses you, the Reader, directly. You'll also find occasions where her narrative includes long stories told to Jane by other characters (such as Rochester's accounts of his past), conversations that Jane overhears between other characters, and even accounts of Jane's dreams. These not only add variety to the style but give the reader a Jane Eyre By Charlotte Brontà « :: English Literature Jane Eyre By Charlotte Brontà « Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontà « was published in 1848, under the name of Currer Bell. Motion Picture Industry Managerial Report
When creating a movie to release in such a competitive industry, assurance is needed that there will be a return on investment as well as that their movie will be well-received by the public and entertaining to make it a popular hit at the box office. Using a sample of 100 motion pictures from 2005 and numerical methods of descriptive statistics, including measures of location, variability, distribution shape and the detection of outliers, the motion picture industry can be analyzed more specifically in order to learn how these variables play a part in the success of a motion picture. The main concern of management in this case would be with regard to revenue, profit, and entertainment. In this case study it was found that there was a high correlation between the total gross sales and the opening gross sales, time spent in the Top 60 and the number of theaters played in, indicating that movie makers should take these variables into consideration when trying to predict or plan for a su ccessful movie. The motion picture industry is a cutthroat, multi-billion dollar industry involving a diverse number of contributors to making a successful movie. From production crews, actors, and directors to marketing crews, distribution companies and movie theaters, there is substantial time and effort put into these creations and there are four variables commonly used to measure the return on this investment. These variables include the opening weekend gross sales, total gross sales, number of theaters showing the movie, and weeks in the top sixty of gross sales. The first variable, opening gross, can inform movie makers how anticipated and well-received a movie is and can be a good indication of how much money the movie will earn overall. After calculating several central tendency measures (mean, median, and mode), one can create a histogram and see the opening weekend gross sales are heavily skewed to the right. The median opening gross sales of 0. 40, indicating 50% of the ope ning gross sales values were less than 0. 40 and 50% were greater than 0. 40, would be a more appropriate central tendency measure than the mean due to this skewness. The range of opening gross sales was 108. 43, from 0. 01 (Caterina in the Big City) to 108. 44 (Star Wars: Episode III), and the standard deviation was 18. 87.However, the interquartile range of 12. 37 would be a more appropriate measure of variability because the distribution is skewed and has extreme values. Once a box-plot is created, one can see the extreme values are 108. 44 (Star Wars: Episode III), 102. 69 (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), 77. 06 (War of the Worlds), 50. 34 (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), 48. 75 (Batman Begins), and 33. 90 (Wedding Crashers). Total Gross will demonstrate how much money a movie has earned overall. This can serve as an indicator of which types of movies will resonate with movie-goers and do well in the future. This could also serve as a guide of whether to make a sequel and if it would or would not maximize profits. As with the opening gross, total gross also has a right tail, therefore, median would be a more appropriate central tendency measure than the mean. The median total gross was 5. 85, indicating 50% of the total gross values were less than 5. 85 and 50% were above 5. 85. The range of total gross was 380. 15; from 0. 03 to 380. 18 and the standard deviation was 63. 16. Again, the interquartile range of 47. 03 ould be a more appropriate measure of variability due to the skewness. Based on the box-plot, extreme values were 380. 18 (Star Wars: Episode III), 287. 18 (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), 234. 21 (War of the Worlds), 209. 22 (Wedding Crashers), 205. 28 (Batman Begins), and 186. 22 (Mr. and Mrs. Smith). The number of theaters can also be an indication of a movieââ¬â¢s popularity and potentially large profits, as movie theaters will often bring in and continue showing the most high-demand movies in order to bring in revenue to the theater. The number of theaters is also heavily skewed to the right, indicating the median would be a more appropriate measure than the mean. The median was 410, therefore 50% of the values were less than 410 and 50% of the values were above 410. The range of the number of theaters was 3905, from 5 to 3910 and the standard deviation was 1379. Due to the skewness the interquartile range of 2687 is a better measure of variability. No outliers are identified by creating a box-plot for number of theaters. Weeks in the Top 60 will correlate with the popularity of a movie after it had been released over a period of time.Movies will continue showing if audiences consistently continue to view them after their release date, in turn, creating more revenue. As with the other variables weeks in the top 60 is also skewed to the right, meaning the median of 7 would be a more appropriate measure than the mean, indicating 50% of the variables were above 7 and 50% were less than 7. Note that because the data wa s not highly skewed, the mean and median were close to each other. The range of weeks in the top 60 was 26, from 1 to 27, the standard deviation was 6. 39, and the interquartile range was 10.There were no outliers observed for this variable. Now that we have taken a look at the four variables we can see that the median opening gross sales was . 40 or $400,000 meaning half earned more than that and half earned less in the opening weekend. The median total gross sales was 5. 85 or $5. 85 million, indicating half of the movies earned more in total sales and half earned less. The median number of theaters was 410 meaning half of the movies showed in more than 410 theaters and half of the movies showed in less than 410 theaters. The median number of weeks in the Top 60 was 7 showing that half of the movies shown stayed in Top 6 for less than 7 weeks and half stayed for more than 7 weeks. With regard to the correlation between total gross sales and our other variables it is evident that th ere is a high correlation between total gross sales and opening gross sales, as well as number of theaters and weeks in the top 60. This indicates that those movies that have a high total gross will tend to have a high opening gross and vice versa with low gross sales. Also, this proves to be the same for number of theaters and weeks in the top 60 as typically movies with high total gross sales tend to have been played in more theaters and stayed in the Top 60 for a longer period of time. In conclusion, the use of descriptive statistics can prove to be highly valuable in the evaluation process for any firm or industry. Generally, this can give management a clearer image of where theyââ¬â¢ve been and where they are going, as well as where they want to avoid which can serve so many diverse purposes in the management process.

Basketball â⬠Observation Essay
Honorable guest of honors, ministers, parents, friends, and students, l would like to welcome you to Borrowdale Brooke Academy Sports day. School sports day is a red letter day on the calendar. It is a day when students are freed from their classrooms to jump and run around, freed from the fetters of learning. It is a day for mothers to wear their summary best and fathers to cheer on their sons. Itââ¬â¢s a day when children who may struggle with academic subjects show that they can race faster or jump further than anyone else. Itââ¬â¢s a day for red faces and perspiration where t-shirts and shorts are the order of the day. Itââ¬â¢s a day for starter guns or teachers with whistles. School sports day is a day for cameras and videos and smiling faces. Itââ¬â¢s a day for triumph and disasters, for successes and failures. Speeches are given and medals are presented and, overall, itââ¬â¢s a day for sportsmanship and making memories. This year, I am pleased to see, many are competing encompassing over 50 staff and family members in a wide variety of events. Not least of which is the tug-of-war which I am told will be vigorously contested. As I look around here today I am reminded once again of just how passionate teachers are about sport and what great competitors you all are. One of the consistencies I see when I watch students play at school is the love BBA Students have for sport. And what a great thing sport is on so many levels. Beyond the obvious health and activity benefits, sport can teach us much about life. It teaches us about teamwork, it teaches us how to get along with others, and it teaches us to work together to achieve a common goal. Itââ¬â¢s also about trust and responsibility and about dealing with success and failure. Sport also helps us learn about coping with pressure and the need to stick with training in order to improve. As well as the benefits to individuals, sports and physical activity also bring great benefits to communities through such things as improved health and education, rehabilitation, crime prevention, and gender equality. Another important aspect of sports is its ability to make people feel they are part of something. In a survey done on our last sports day, everybody interviewed said that ââ¬Å"the event made them feel a part of Borrowdale Brooke Academy. Borrowdale Brooke Academy recognizes the value of using sport as vehicle for development But while the challenges are great, so is the commitment to find solutions. I want to acknowledge all the good work done by Teachers and also parents. Everybody has a responsibility to work towards making communities safer. To achieve that goal parents and teachers need to work closely together. This sports day is an excellent way to bring people together in a relaxed environment that will build lasting networks and friendships across the sector. I congratulate the organizers and particularly the director of studies Mrs. Henney, the principal Mrs. Rutsito and his deputy Mr. Muridzi, the technical coordinators Mr. Maviki, and other members of the organizing team who have done a great job in putting together todayââ¬â¢s program. And now it only leaves me to wish all competitors good luck and to declare the First annual Borrowdale Brooke Academy Sports Day open. Thank you.
